The Mercer County Historical Society in Aledo, IL, was formed in 1955 and features the Essley-Noble Museum, which houses thousands of artifacts and displays from years gone by. Much of our artifacts, genealogy and machinery is from the 1800s.
We offer a wealth of amazing research opportunities for American historians and individuals interested in genealogy and learning more about the past. Our research is utilized by numerous people and has assisted many in finding the information they seek.
Our professionals are knowledgeable on aspects of the history of items in our museum. We can provide information, answer questions, and offer opinions.
Our friendly staff members walk you through our museum, describing each artifact and its history, use, and interesting stories. Our museum features Civil War records of Mercer County residents, and information on those serving in other US wars as well. In addition, we have cemetery records.
We offer membership opportunities and rely on support from the community to keep our museum running. Our sponsors allow us to continue to provide our services to the community as well as to bring the past to the present.
